Cut off the top and bottom of the carrier bag leaving a plastic tube.
Now cut along the length of the bag, use the pen and ruler to ensure the cut is straight. This should leave a rectangle of plastic.
Using the ruler, mark out a square in the middle of the bag. The square shown here is 40 x 40cm.
Next mark two triangles either side of the square. The triangles should be half the width of the square (20cm in this case) and their points should be about a third of the length of the square from the edge (13cm).
Now cut round the outside of the shape you have just drawn leaving the basic shape of the kite.
Cut the two sticks to height of the bag and secure them at the top and bottom with tape.
Place a small piece of tape over each of the corners of the triangle, this is where the string will be tied and is needed to reinforce the plastic.
Pierce a small hole in the middle of the little squares of tape, this is where the string will be attached.
Cut a length of string twice the length of the square part of the kite. This kite will require an 80cm length of string. Tie the string to the kite using the holes you have just made, this is called the bridle
Now tie the rest of the string to the middle of the bridle.
If you like you can attach a tail to the kite. This can be a length of ribbon or a strip of plastic from another carrier bag. Fix the tail in the middle at the bottom edge of the kite.
Finally cut the string to about 10 metres and wrap the excess round the short stick. This can be used to control the kite.
